Teaching

I live in the west suburbs of Chicago and keep an active teaching studio out of my home and at one of the local high schools. I am also available for Skype lessons on a consulting basis (ie for technical problems you might be encountering), but generally prefer to meet regularly with students in person. In my experience, an in-person cello lesson yields the most-consistent results for the majority of students. Contact me for information on specific rates and locations for cello lessons. Why Study Cello with Me?

My development as a player was rather late compared to most of my colleagues, forcing me to be incredibly analytical about exactly how great players accomplished things on their instruments. It forced me furthermore to discover how other musicians were hearing things that I couldn’t hear at the time. The advantage of having this background from a teaching perspective is that I am able to diagnose problems and explain solutions that teachers with a more-typical background might have difficulty with.  Problems my students face are often problems that I myself have faced and overcome.

My goal for each cello student is to instill a process of self-development that can take them far after I have worked with them, both in music and other fields.  There are several interlocking processes that govern how one develops oneself, but at its core is a process of defining goals (musical or otherwise), and finding solutions to meet those goals.
